After the decent test of the PC version of Actua Ice Hockey 2 via RetroArch's DOSBox-Pure core, this time I'll be testing the first game via the same core, running under Win98, obviously, in what is perhaps the VERY FIRST TIME footage of the PC version is ever shown here, after quite a harsh struggle of getting the game to work, given that the game, even when cracked, still requires the original CD to play. And although the game was dumped by the precious redump.org community, an ISO of the game was and still is nowhere to be found, not even on the Internet Archive. What you find is only the ISO of the 2nd game that I showed off previously, and that's it. But fortunately, I managed to find a way to get the game to boot: Since there is no ISO of the game on the Internet Archive, like I said, the only way to obtain the game is through the Gold Games #042 warez compilation CD available on the Archive. What was contained in the archive for the game within the compilation are contents from the original CD with only the English commentary present, which I had to compile an ISO of my own together using ImgBurn and have it mounted directly into DOSBox-Pure to get the game to boot just that. The crack for the game which the compilation CD contained did not work at all. In typical fashion of good old' wingfan919 aka HistoryofVideoGameHockey, who used to show off all the various hockey games in full detail, even though like the PlayStation version and unlike the Midway-produced N64 game which was a re-hash of Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey, it did not see a North American release strangely enough despite the inclusion of the likes of Wayne, Joe, Jagr, Brodeur, Modano, Brett etc., although PC games, especially those designed for Win98, are region-free unlike console games, I'll be showing off the game's intro and some of the menus in addition to showcasing a full three-period game played under default settings, but set under NHL rules. You know, first Olympics to feature NHL stars, get it? And with region-free, this means that, if you do live in like the US or Canada, you can indeed import this game straight from Europe and install and play it on your computer without any regional modifications, unlike of how you would do on a gaming console. And to show off the entire game in action, I will present the finalists of the tournament, those being the Campeones del Mundo de Hockey del 1998... oops, sorry... I mean Gold medallists of the 1998 Winter Olympic tournament, Czech Republic, versus the finalists of the Russian Federation. And of course, in a way to appease the fans of the winners, I'll play as them, obviously.... Just for you, champs. :) Emulation-wise, the game runs pretty fine..... As a fan of the 2nd game that I still consider it to be one of my true guilty pleasures, I'm very glad I got to play the PC version of the first game after having played it on the PlayStation previously. And with that said, I am very honored to show off footage of the PC version that no one else has ever done until now.
