The Romanian Ministry of Defense announced that the country has received the first batch of Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV). The 33 vehicles delivered were designed for the Romanian Special Forces (SOF). This delivery coincided with another Foreign Military Sales (FMS) approval on the same day, in which the United States provided Romania with 54 M1A2 Abrams SEPv3 tanks at a total cost of $2.53 billion. The estimated value of JLTV's FMS approved on March 14, 2023 is $104.0 million. This sale includes not only the recently delivered JLTVs, but also an additional 95 vehicles in the M1278A1 Artillery Transporter configuration. The change made to the original FMS file, initially worth $43.73 million, provides a total of 129 M1278A1 Heavy Weapons Carrier Joint Light Tactical Vehicles. The Oshkosh Defense M1278A1 Heavy Weapons Carrier (HGC) represents a critical component of this FMS package. Developed as a variant of the JLTV, the M1278A1 brings a number of capabilities to the Romanian Army. Launched by the US Department of Defense and designed to replace the aging Humvee fleet, the JLTV program aims to provide military forces with modern and capable vehicles.
