Complete disassembly of my Maytag washer to replace the "snubber ring", a thin teflon bearing that the entire weight of the rocking tub sits in. The washer was shaking violently because the snubber ring was worn out and the shaking motion was being transferred to the frame instead of remaining in the mechanically isolated spring suspension circuit. The snubber ring provides a frictionless (ideally) surface for the tub to tilt on, and if it is worn the tilting motion is transferred to the snubber bearing which is rigidly mounted to the base, causing the entire machine to violently shake and potentially walk around the room and rip the hoses out! Fortunately this 3 hours job saved the machine, and it continues to work as good as new, for the cost of about $ 10 for the part and shipping.
