The two youths identified as Oinam Thoithoi Singh from Thoubal Leishangthem Awang Leikai and Thokchom Thoithoiba Singh from Thoubal Khekman Wangmataba Mayai Leikai were handed over to SP Kangpokpi in the presence of Assam Rifles At Gamgiphaii check post early morning at 5:15 am. Taking to X, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said “The two young men abducted in Kangpokpi district on 27th September 2024 have been safely brought back to the custody of Manipur police. I sincerely appreciate everyone from both the state and central government who worked tirelessly to ensure their safe return. Your efforts are deeply valued.” According to a reliable source, the two youths were released in exchange for 11 Kuki-Zo undertrial prisoners lodged at Sajiwa Jail in Imphal. As per the agreement from both sides, these 11 Kuki-Zo prisoners were released on bail. The three Meitei youths went missing on September 27 while travelling to New Keithelmanbi to participate in the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) GD recruitment test. Later, one of the three youths was rescued and handed over to the police by the Indian Army. Earlier, there was speculation on social media that the abductors, in exchange for the release of two Meitei youths held hostage, made a list of demands, including the safe release of Dr Mark T Haokip, who is in the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). However, a source revealed that Dr. Haokip was left out of the exchange group following an appeal made by his family. In a clarification, M. Limkhosei Haokip, father of Dr. Haokip, stated that the family was unaware of the alleged proposal. The case of Dr. Mark Haokip remains sub judice, and any actions must follow legal procedures. The family further appealed to all communities of the state not to sensationalise the situation and add to their mental agony but rather uphold and trust the rule of law. We firmly believe and remain committed to justice and rule of law, as enshrined in our Indian constitution, non-violent resolution and peace in the society, it said. #EastMojo #EastStory #northeastindia #northeast #manipur #manipurcrisis #kangpokpi #imphal #meitei #kuki ***** Subscribe:    / @eastmojoofficial   ***** Visit our website: https://www.eastmojo.com/ Facebook:   / eastmojo   Twitter:   / eastmojo   Instagram:   / east.mojo   *****
