Khazanchi - 1958 - Balraj Sahni, Rajendra Kumar, Shyama

Khazanchi, 1958 Director: P.N. Arora Music: Madan Mohan Lyrics: Rajinder Krishan Choreography: Surya Kumar Playback: Asha Bhosle, Mohammad Rafi Cast: Balraj Sahni, Rajendra Kumar, Shyama, Chitra, Manorama, Helen, Rajan Haksar, Amar, Anwar, S.N. Banerjee, Keshto Mukherjee, Minoo Mumtaz, Shammi Anu has edited and greatly improved on the subtitles. The Hindi challenged among us can now be sure of the translations, something not often true of subs from Indian media company retail releases. Many thanks for her efforts! The film is in a state of chemical decomposition, worse in some places than in others. I've tamed it a little bit but you need Hollywood-type restorations to return it to its former glory. There's quite a lot of bits and pieces missing from this film, but nowhere more than after 1:13:46. We go from the Khazanchi (Balraj Sahni) expecting to meet in the evening with the people to whom he's to turn over the money he's brought with him to the money having disappeared, Roma (Shammi) having been murdered, and the Khazanchi being on the run from the law. I think probably a whole reel of film is missing. That's almost 15 minutes of film important to the plot. SPOILERS! After the meeting at the bank, Roma takes Khazanchi to a nightclub and gets him drunk while Helen performs a missing song and dance. Roma returns to the hotel with him, he passes out and she steals the key to his suitcase with the money. At about the same time hotel goons arrive at the room, an argument over the money ensues, Roma gets shot and killed and the thugs take the money and leave. The Khazanchi awakens from his stupor, sees Roma dead and the money gone and takes off just before the cops arrive. There the film resumes. END SPOILERS! Anu in her blog has a full review of this 1958 Khazanchi: https://anuradhawarrier.blogspot.com/... The 1958 Khazanchi is a remake of the 1941 Khazanchi, a groundbreaking and very popular film in its time.
