For extremely skinny guys high calorie bulking can be helpful. But for a lot of guys, when they eat more food than necessary during a bulk up diet they end up gaining a lot of excess bodyfat in the process - thus getting a big belly. If you are gaining more fat than muscle during your bulk, than that's a sign you're eating too much. Rather than trying to force your body to gain weight from eating a lot of food and chugging down weight gainer shakes, think instead of just consuming enough quality nutrition to fuel your training in the gym. To have a lean bulk, I recommend keeping your diet very clean - almost the same as it would be if you were following a fat loss cutting diet. But just increase your food portion sizes a bit so that you have a slight surplus of calories to provide enough energy to train hard in the gym and recover from your workouts. Focus your efforts on making gains in the gym through progressive overload training, not simply trying to pack on bodyweight through sheer volume of food. You only need to eat enough to "allow" yourself to grow, not so much that you are trying to "force" yourself to grow. There's a big difference. While you'll gain less total body weight using this approach, the quality of your muscle gains will be better. In addition to that you'll look leaner, feel better, and be much healthier as well.
