backpacking fly fishing and fun

I invited a few friends to join me for some good times and fishing. I took a split bamboo flyrod a guy gave me about a decade back. I had caught, bluegill and largemouth on it, but never a trout. I was set on, (in my own head) joining the few remaining fishermen who have done so. IT was once a common feat, to do so, but, like many other things, skills and ways, it has been lost to the evolution of the "so called advancement" of mankind and his society. The more they step forward and push on, the more I see fit to linger in the shadows and bring back the old ways. It is fetal, I know but at my age, 59 pretty soon, how many good solid years do I have left? A dozen at best! We all know how fast time flies and before I know it, my time will be over. I saw it happen to my dad, one day he came home from fishing and set his gear down, with every intent to go again but it never happened. Weeks turn into months, then years. Before we know it, a decade gone by! I, most often, backpack alone and when I do and I'm sitting alone as the sun sets, I see the ridge lines, all too familiar trees and canyons and find it hard to accept, one day I will no longer sleep under these open skies. No longer see the satellites, ufo's, the canyons, hearing the deer and bear walk past. I will mostly miss the sounds of the creeks and rivers though. I never feel along on my familiar mountain range. There is always some memory or persons voice, laughter in my head. And more times than not, hearing, "hey pharraoh" as someone's walking up, or past. Yes, I will miss this all, as well as the many awesome friends I have made over the last 4.5 decades! No one likes to think of it or even consider it BUT, one day, we will depart company from our friends with every intent to get together again but, time is not only a thief but a remodeler as well. It sweeps the leg more times than not. These friends, here in this video, as well as many others, have altered my life, my path and destination more times than I can count, and I thank them for it all. The many of you who watch these videos have also enriched my life more than I can think to even hope for! I thank you ALL! I am living in a state of perpetual DeJa'Vu. I AM A FISHERMAN LIKE MY FATHER BEFORE ME, AND I AM GRATEFUL FOR THE LIFE I HAVE HAD.    • Fishing Big Bear Lake
