6 Min​uets are an uncatalogued set of early pieces by Ludwig van Beet​hoven, composed a few years after his arrival in Vienna. During this early period, most of Beet​hoven’s works use the standard techniques of the Classical period sound characteristic of the older composers Haydn and Mozart. All six Min​uets are in incipient ternary form, with a main theme, a Trio section, and a shortened return of the main theme without the repeats. Each Min​uet has the same amount of measures; each section contains sixteen measures without accounting for the repeated bars and differences in upbeat duration. Only piano versions of these six pieces survive to the present day, but there is strong evidence that they were originally scored for an orchestral setting. The second piece, the memorable and elegant G Major Min​uet, took a life of its own after Beet​hoven was long gone. It has since become an extraordinarily popular feature of the piano repertoire for children and a commonly occurring tune in popular culture.
