Cycling the Driftless Region | PART 2: LA CROSSE

Part 2 of Cycling the Driftless finds me in Rushford, Minnesota. Heading east, I reach the terminus of the Root River Trail in Houston and get onto a quiet county road that takes me to the Mississippi River Trail – really a bike route as opposed to a trail – that leads me to the bridge that crosses the river. Bike touring through his region is amazing. Along the trail, it’s very wooded, with lots of views of the Root River, but as I begin riding the back roads, the landscapes open up dramatically. I reach La Crosse over a broad and scenic crossing of the Mississippi and find a bike shop where my seat post issue is resolved and I find myself with a free afternoon to explore this lovely riverside city.
