The Double Impact Crater in Canada; The Clearwater Craters

One of the most spectacular pair of impact craters on the planet is located within Northern Quebec in Canada. This area contains two immediately adjacent impact craters which are known as the Clearwater Craters craters. Each of these structures measures more than 20 kilometers or 13 miles wide and are located within a remote section of tundra. Despite their proximity, they formed in separate impact events more than 150 million years apart from one another. This video will discuss when these double impact craters formed, and what effects their impacts caused. Thumbnail Photo Credit: Google Earth, Image Landsat / Copernicus. This image was overlaid with text, and then overlaid with GeologyHub made graphics (the image border, the orange dotted buried impact crater outline, and the GeologyHub logo). Estimates on asteroid diameter, velocity, tnt energy equivalent, frequency of a similar magnitude asteroid/comet impact event, and effects from the impact (including earthquake magnitude generated and wind speeds generated) in this video were sourced using the calculator at https://impact.ese.ic.ac.uk/ImpactEar..., which was used with permission.
