Garden Harvest 2024 - It's Enough (More Than I Anticipated)

Another growing season has come and gone. I have to admit, I was feeling rather discouraged earlier this summer when several of the vegetable crops I planted didn't grow well if at all. I had been so fortunate in previous years to have grown such bountiful harvests that were able to sustain my family and I throughout the winter months, that I felt like I had messed up as a gardener when many of this year's crops weren't producing as well as they had done before. It took some soul searching, but I realized later, it wasn't my fault, but rather likely some environmental conditions that were beyond my control, and that I only did things to the best of my ability. Fast forward to harvest day, I was pleasantly surprised to see everything in one place on on the table, in fact, it was more than I had anticipated! While it may not allow me to be fully self sufficient, I've come to realize that total self sufficiency is a pipe dream anyway, and that this harvest is well enough for my needs, and I am very thankful for what I've been blessed with! I've also been blessed with all the many flowers we've had this year! More blooms and more pollinators than ever before! Every cell in my Leafcutter Bee's nesting block has been capped off! The wildflower meadow I planted in remembrance of my beloved dog was a beautiful success! I've even tried my hand at making flower essences for the first time, which I can say has been life changing to say the least! While it may seem like the end of the gardening season, which it is starting to be, there is still some work to be done, such as seed saving, some final herb harvests, putting the garden to bed for the winter, and of course, planning for next year!
