HSSC presents David Serafino, "A Re-Imagined Intimate History of Port Dalhousie"

David Serafino narrates his recent publication "Port Dalhousie Reimagined, A Century of Colourized Photographs" walking us through Port Dalhousie's unique history. He covers many early scenes: the first Welland Canal with the harbour, the Alexander Muir shipbuilding facility, the early mills and hotels that lined the canalside. Sailing ships that slowly evolved over time to the passenger steamships in the early 20th century. The early days of the Royal Henley Regatta, scenes of early Lakeside Park and much more in this small community's history are in this visual tour. David Serafino has been an active resident of the Port Dalhousie community, with his involvement on the citizens group Port Dalhousie Quorum, organizer of several music concerts held in Lakeside Park and Henley grandstand and also publisher of the community magazine 'Dalhousie Peer'. The book "Port Dalhousie Reimagined, A Century of Colourized Photographs" was a technical exercise to restore and colourize vintage photographs to bring out the image details. Additionally, David, together with his writing partner Christine Aloian-Robertson, compiled information for the book, "Port Dalhousie - An Intimate History", a witnessed history, based on a series of interviews with many long-time Port residents providing their own stories in the community.
