It's been a while since our last Churchill update video. In this video we'll show how we put together the mount for the Besa machine gun in the front of the hull along with a couple of other minor pieces in the crew compartment. The Besa machine gun was a British version of the Czechoslovak ZB-53 air-cooled, belt-fed machine gun (called the TK vz. 37 in the Czechoslovak army [note 1]). The name came from the Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA), who signed an agreement with Československá zbrojovka to manufacture the gun in the UK. The War Office ordered the weapon in 1938 and production began in 1939, after modifications. It was used extensively by the armed forces of United Kingdom during the Second World War as a mounted machine gun for tanks (including the Churchill) and other armoured vehicles as a replacement for the heavier, water-cooled Vickers machine gun. Although it required a rather large opening in the tank's armour, it was reliable. Interested in tanks, check out my dedicated Gunfire instagram page: / gunfire_mic. . NEW: For those on TikTok you can find short videos there as well: @michaelscaplis The Gunfire museum is located next to the Airfield of Brasschaat (Belgium) and is open to the public every 2nd and 3rd Sunday of the month. https://site-gunfire-brasschaat.be/ Note that the museum will be closed during the Christmas holidays. Footage was shot with a Sony a7iii with Sony 28mm F2 and Sony A6400 with Sigma 16mm F1.4 on Zhiyun Weebill lab and Deity D4 Duo. Editing was done in Premiere Pro.
