Haji Kaleem Ullah Khan, known as The Mango Man of India has devoted his entire life growing a mango tree. He has been awarded a Padma Shri in 2008 for the work that he has done for the society. Sharing the love for Mango from Malihabad to your screens Almighty Productions is coming soon with a new documentary titled ‘The Mango Man’. The teaser was released just yesterday for the audience on their youtube channel. Little Kaleem’s favorite season was summer- not for the heat but for the freshness of the yellow pulp, MANGO. He used to run off to his ancestral orchard in Malihabad and devour on those ripen mangoes. Awarded the Padmashri- one of India’s highest civilian awards- Kaleem grew over 300 varieties of mangoes, all of different shapes, colors and sizes. The weird thing is that it was grown all on one tree! Though he didn’t stop there, he developed some unique varieties of mango such as heart shaped Asl-ul Muqarra, the bright red Husn-e Ara, Sharbati Bargain, Pukhraj, Walajah Pasand, Khas-ul Khas, Makkhan, Shyam Sunder, Prince, Himsagar and more. He still remembers the day when he had to face the worst time of his life- the heavy flood that ruined everything. It led to a financial crisis in his family and little Kaleem Khan was constrained to help his family with re-establishing the family business. Days went by and he tried some experiments on mangoes. He resolved and planted a mango tree which bore 7 different types of mangoes. And as everyone says, “The rest is history.” Kaleem Khan speaks well of his orchard and his special tree with 300 breeds in it. He also shared his thoughts on the recent terrorism events that took place; terrorism according to him destroying humanity. He compared his goal to that of those merciless terrorists. He aims to serve humanity in a positive and beautiful way. Kaleem Khan supports and shares how the growth of mangoes helped in the growth of Malihabad as a whole. The Malihabad’s pride is even enjoyed in the Gulf countries where mangoes are boxed and sold. Done upon with the title of ‘Udyan Pandit’, Khan is a 7th standard failed but has now become one of the most prominent person in Malihabad. Started in 1957, he now owns Abdullah Nursery where some of the rarest mango trees exist for over 100 years. With the ‘World Mango Day’ celebrated on the 7th of July every year, the government promotes mango tourism. Recently ambassadors of 14 countries visited him at Malihabad and Khan continues to be honored by the presence of other tourists. It is needless to say that Haji Kaleem Ullah Khan is considered as the ‘Father of Mango Gratification.
