The History Hit documentary I discussed in today’s video is entitled Ham House and is part of the Great British Houses series. #ad MORE ABOUT THE VIDEO: In today’s video from History Calling I give you the story of the six wives of Henry VIII, from the birth of the Spanish Princess Catherine of Aragon in 1485 to the death of Anne of Cleves, Henry’s German wife, in 1557. Remembered by the rhyme divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived, theirs is a story filled with love, betrayal, adultery, treason, tragedy, accusations of incest and the judicial murder of two of the women. It will include such well known events as Catherine of Aragon’s first marriage to Prince Arthur Tudor, the annulment of her second marriage, the English Reformation, the rise and fall of Anne Boleyn and the fall of Katherine Howard, Anne’s cousin and successor as Henry’s wife. You’ll hear about Henry’s quest for a male heir, the children he and his wives lost in pursuit of that goal and the births of Mary I, Elizabeth I and Edward VI. I’ll also cover what happened to Anne of Cleves and Catherine Parr after Henry’s death in 1547. We’ll visit well known extant locations including St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, Hampton Court Palace and the Chapel of St Peter Ad Vincula in the Tower of London, as well as some which are long gone, such as Greenwich Palace, Richmond Palace and Whitehall Palace.
