Restomodding a Lesney Matchbox No. 75B Ferrari Berlinetta, in the Matchbox range from 1965 until 1971, joining the Superfast range in 1970. It's my 300th episode and what better way to celebrate than restomodding one of Lesney's most iconic Matchbox castings; the 75B Ferrari Berlinetta. It even appears on a sculpture at the site of Lesney's old factory in east London such is its importance, representing an example of the first castings made at the factory between 1969 and 1982. The model is based on Ferrari's 1963-64 250 GT Lusso, the final vehicle to bear the famous 250 name. It was a GT car focused on luxury with a stylish leather interior and wooden steering wheel, while the exterior was designed by Pininfarina and coachbuilt by Scaglietti. While the Matchbox model did come in red during the transitional period over to the updated Superfast series in 1970 as well as rare pre-production examples, all other 'regular wheels' era cars were metallic green. Kindly donated by JC Hayes, I decided to restomod this one by painting it red and giving it a wealth of extra detail that it so deserved.
