Scent work is a game where dogs must learn to ignore distractions to search and find target odor. The Your Choice Games featured teach dogs to ignore food and toys to earn rewards, using a progressive approach to distraction training that increases drive, motivation and understanding. We don't say "leave it", because in blind searches, the handler doesn't know the location of distractions and hidden target odor. So, it's the dog's job to notice distractions, but choose to keep on searching for odor. Watch closely the scent dog sniffing distractions in an area clear of odor. Observing canine body language is the first step towards learning how to read your dog, allowing you to compare behaviour on distractions with working odor. Gradually, we introduce distractions with 1 hot box, then add harder distractions and more boxes. Always keep your dog guessing what comes next. Keep sessions short.
