Episode 99 About 2 weeks ago, a rescue group reached out to me to see if we could take two of the horses they had rescued. One was a Belgian Draft horse gelding and the other was a Percheron mare. Buddy and Luna were rescued by Broke N Beautiful Equine Rescue and Rehabilitation. Buddy, was rescued from Bowie Texas Livestock on November 11, 2023, is 18 years old and stands 17.5 hands tall. Luna the Percheron mare, is 15 years old and was surrendered with her Mom, Stella, from a transport from Missouri on April 10th, 2024. Stella passed away due to severe hoof displacement. Since her mom passed, Luna bonded to Buddy and Broke N Beautiful felt the two need to be placed in a home with other Draft horses. The rescue group is located in Weatherford, Texas which is 5 hours from us. We decided to bring Buddy and Luna to the farm! This is the surprise I was talking about in a previous video! Durning this past week, 11 Belgian Draft horses came into Bowie Texas Livestock that we were watching. On 9/9/24, lot# 3316 came up on that list! We were already going to Weatherford which is about 45 minutes from Bowie so we decided to save this Belgian Draft horse gelding. We did an emergency fundraiser and raised all the funds we needed to save lot#3316. When one of our subscribers found out that we were rescuing the gelding she asked if we would be able to give lot#3313 a Belgian Draft horse mare a home if she put up the full bail amount. Of course since we were going to be at Bowie, we said yes! So we came home last Thursday with 4 more horses! On Saturday 9/14/24, I posted another video because the remaining horses from the 11 that came in were on the ship to Mexico list for 2pm on Saturday. Another rescue, Border Horse Slaughter Rescue had started fundraising for the horses on the ship list to save them and keep them off the truck however the fundraiser wasn’t going fast enough to keep them off the truck y 2pm on Saturday. I reached out to them and offered to partner with them on the rescue to save the last 4 Belgians on the list! Our agreement was Border Horse Slaughter Rescue was going to raise half the bail money and we were going to raise the other half. We are also going to give these 4 horses a forever retirement home. We both got to work and we raised the funds we needed to save the 4 Belgian draft horses on the ship list! We can’t thank you all enough for all of your support, love, kindness and generosity! The rescue of these 6 horses this week would not have been possible without your help! We hope you enjoy this video! The Big Hoof Foundation will always be transparent with how your donations are used. 100% of the money we raise goes directly to the rescued horses' bail fees, transport, feed, hay, medical bills, medications, alternative medical treatments, supplements, surgeries, etc. Every dollar raised is for the horses! www.bighooffoundation.org Another way to support us is with feed...the one item WE always need is FEED! If you would like to send a gift/donation of feed (Alfa Pro or beardless wheat) you can send that through our local feed store, HF & C Amarillo. When you call, tell them you are sending a gift to Fletcher Farms Amarillo/Big Hoof Foundation and they will add the gifts to our account. We are also feeding round bales of beardless wheat and the horses go through about 2 round bales every few days. A bale of beardless wheat is $140. We also use small square bales of beardless wheat and can be purchased through HF&C Amarillo for $14.95 each.
