Hi everyone! Two weeks have flown by. Welcome on board a brand new ride. As you might've already heard: we have another 'temporary' speed limit on the high speed line since a few weeks. Unfortunately Infraspeed (maintenance) and ProRail had to decide this after multiple infrastructure failures had been found. Possibly due to construction errors during the build of this part of the HSL. Normally the maximum speed on the HSL is 300km/h. Now it's lowered to 120 and even 80km/h on 17km's of the line. This of course causes delays on the route. Especially when you add the construction works at Schiphol on top of that. Ready for the ride and curious what our delay will be when we arrive in Rotterdam? We'll let's go then! 0:00 Amsterdam Centraal We start the ride in Amsterdam. On this day I was a spare driver and this was the only ride I did that day. As a spare driver you're practically waiting for work that can't be done by the planned colleagues due to disruptions. Now let's run train 932 from Amsterdam to Rotterdam. We depart on time. So that's a good start. 2:55 Singelgrachtbrug 3:32 Werkplaats Zaanstraat 3:58 Transformatorweg aansluiting 5:46 Isolatorweg 5:52 Amsterdam Sloterdijk We are at the top level of the station. Downstairs the train from Amsterdam to Zaandam/Haarlem are running from left to right. 6:58 Amsterdam Erasmusgracht 7:19 Jan van Galenstraat 7:47 Postjesweg 8:07 Amsterdam Lelylaan 8:22 Heemstedestraat 8:46 Henk Sneevlietweg 9:30 Riekerpolder aansluiting Due to construction works on Schiphol Airport we only have 2 out of 4 tracks available. We are lead to the left side of the tracks to enter the Airport. Normally already a busy line. But now even busier because we stil have 70% of the trains running. The slightest delay causes other trains to get delayed as well. 12:30 Schipholtunnel As said: only two out of four tracks available. We now drive on the left hand side of the Airport infrastructure. 14:49 Schiphol Airport With a two minute delay we arrive at (and depart from) the Airport. 19:51 Hoofddorp + Slowly Entering High Speed Line Now from here we must get back to the right hand tracks on the infrastructure just before Hoofddorp. Right after Hoofddorp we begin the transition from the conventional tracks (ATB and 1500V DC) towards the HSL (ERTMS and 25.000V AC). Because we are still working on getting back to the right hand tracks we enter the HSL with a very low speed (normally 130km/h). 23:38 Temporary Speed Limit 120km/h We're now 3 minutes behind on schedule before we gain speed for the first speed restriction of 120km/h. The reason for the extra speed restriction is the fact a total of 10 viaducts have minor cracks / defects. Until this is fixed the speed has gone down to make sure running on the HSL is still safe. Infraspeed and ProRail are looking into this huge problem. A real bummer for passengers using this line on daily basis. 28:06 Speed Restriction 80km/h In the middle of the speed restriction area we still have the one where we can only drive 80km/h. In the the past few years the viaduct in this part has shifted 8cm (!) to the left seen from this point of view. Hence the lower speed until this is fixed. This particular speed restriction will be in order until at least the end of 2025. :( 31:03 Another Speed Restriction 120km/h Another speed restriction for a few kilometers from here until the tunnel. From there speeds up to 300km/h are allowed again. 160km/h for our train because that's the maximum speed for this train. 31:57 Five Minute Delay + Groene Harttunnel We're now 5 minutes behind on schedule and since we must still gain speed there's no way to get back on schedule before Rotterdam. Only ICNG can get 2 minutes of time back because it's allowed to drive on 200km/h. I'll show you that ride later again. 37:44 Neutral Section (400m) This section prevents too many trains in one section from draining all the power off the wires. 41:12 Future Viaduct A16 At the end of the train this will be called the Viaduct A16. Still work in progress. 41:41 Tunnel Rotterdam Noord Leaving the high speed line again by entering the Rotterdam Noord tunnel and changing back from 25.000V AC under ERTMS to 1500V DC under ATB. 45:20 Rotterdam Centraal With a 5 minute delay we arrive at our final stop. Reasons: 3 minutes due to construction works at the Airport. And an additional 2 minutes due to the temporary speed limit (17km) on the HSL. I hope you enjoyed this video and all the extra info.
