With the recent cold temperatures my B7 developed a new knocking noise. It never came up when temperatures were higher, in the 60's and up, but would intensify when it got really cold out. After driving for a bit and bringing the engine to normal operating temps the sound goes away. It looks like it is coming from the brake booster vacuum pump located on the back of the head near the fire wall. There is a hose that attaches to a plastic flange and leads to the brake booster. It looks as if the plastic piece vibrates during a cold start making a knocking sound. Oddly this does not happen when it's nice out, like today - 60F.
