Turn your sound on! It's fun to hear Kevin Calabro's commentary. About 4 to 6 times a year I would perform at other team's games for their mascot's birthday party. Each team would invite a few NBA mascots to come in and perform at half time, along with some time-outs and quarter breaks. This specific party was for Slamson, the Kings mascot, and he wanted to do a few rounds of stilt boxing. Each time-out there would be a different bout with different mascots leading up to the championship fight. Ultimately the home team mascot needs to win, but we wanted to give it everything we had. You will see in this bout I gave Slamson a good right hook as he was hitting me at the same time. I lost balance enough that I knew I should probably take the fall before taking the risk that Slamson might fall on accident. As I stumbled around I was looking for a save place to fall. You always have to be on the lookout for officials, security guards, ushers, ball boys, players, coaches and camera men. As you can see, my left foot stepped on the camera cable which rolled and caused my foot to slip. I was not expecting that to happen and luckily I had a clear landing. Those big gloves are great to fall on, but it's still hard on the ribs, knees and elbows. I always enjoyed attending those mascot birthday parties. There were less than 30 guys in the world that did what I did professionally at one time. It was always nice to share ideas, commiserate about failures and just have some fun! Early in my career I would take Erin with me on many of these trips. Then when the kids came they would come as well. My last couple seasons my son, Samuel, was old enough to come with me by himself. We would always try to stay and extra day and do something specific to the city. In Sacramento, we would always head up to Lake Tahoe and snowboard. On a few trips there in the summer for WNBA we went downhill mountain biking at Northstar and play in the creek on the side of the road up to Lake Tahoe.
