This home video features pictures from Due East Road and Ocean Isle Loop, captured before the construction of the Castaways Hotel, which was later dismantled to make way for the Ocean Isle Estates. On watching the video, you'll notice that the town appears much emptier than it does now. As you view the video, you'll see that we used to ride our ATVs on the empty lot next door. Although the camera angle might appear as if we are on the NPS dunes, I assure you that we are not. The NPS came by several times to check on us and converse with us. Additionally, you'll see us driving through the Kinnakeet Shores neighborhood long before it was built. There is also footage of shoreline commercial fishermen bringing in their nets at Cape Hatteras Point. You'll see my brother and me deciding to play with a shark, which may seem risky by today's standards but was more common in the 1980s.
