Every Friday, at a clinic in Toamasina, Madagascar, women who have been healed from obstetric fistula gather in celebration before they go home. The fistula clinic is the outcome of a collaboration between Freedom From Fistula and Mercy Ships, and it provides free and safe surgery to women struggling with this health condition. This clinic is also the workplace of a group of Malagasy nurses who were trained by Mercy Ships volunteers many years ago. The incredible work being done at this clinic is a testament to the enduring impact of partnership and surgical education in the nations we serve, long after our hospital ships have departed.
