Here's the looks-like-over-40-minute full tutorial on how to make the Marvel Comics' character Daredevil's billy club prop with a functional cord retraction inside. You can plan on retracting between five and six feet of cord by means of a push button controlled spring mechanism using these instructions. I would like to say that this is easily the worst scripted and longest, most boring video I've ever shot. To everyone who's ever given me video production advice, I'm sorry. I hope you loved it! Please remember that this is basically a dangerous toy, please treat it as such. It would look great as part of your Daredevil costume, at a convention, in a fan film, etc. I'm available for consults if you aren't in too much of a hurry, since I do have a day job, but for not making these for sale (please believe me when I say I just can't right now and please stop asking). Be safe, and for God's sake don't try to swing from this, it's completely unrealistic and you'll break it and probably your wrist. Links for supplies or suppliers and prices I paid- pulley wheels($25 for two packages):http://www.homedepot.com/p/Prime-Line... leather rivets($6):http://www.tandyleather.com/en/produc... paracord 325($8):http://www.michaels.com/parachute-cor... cord locks($8):http://www.amazon.com/Dritz-Cord-Stop... Small Parts on Amazon for inner nylon tube(this price changes sometimes. If it's too much, wait awhile or find a substitute):http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001... Article on Make Magazine about staining PVC pipe (materials to color the red section were about $16):http://makezine.com/projects/make-30/... PVC outer tube is 3/4" thinwall white pipe. I found mine on the scrap pile at a specialty supply store and paid $1 for about five feet. Nails can be anything that fits inside the rivets. I recommend stainless steel, cost about $3. Also, I recommend stainless steel for your banding strap, cost about $1 at Home Depot. JB Weld is awesome, and one trick I've found is that it won't stick to the plastic side of duct tape, so use that to protect your work surface. Also, visit these nice people: Century Spring Corporation (remember, they don't have the right spring. Use a desk lamp. But they're nice folks, so I'm trying to send them some business):http://www.centuryspring.com/ Metal by the Foot (also nice guys, if anyone wants to try the aluminum tubing):http://www.metalbythefoot.com/ Did I miss anything? Tell me if I did. Disclaimer: I do not guarantee your results. Ask questions in the comments, post a link to your own video of what's happening if you're having trouble and I'll do my best to help. I'm not associated with Marvel or Netflix in any way, but I spoke to one of their guys this one time at a convention about this and I don't expect to hear from them anytime soon. I'm not making money from this (unfortunately) and am not intending to infringe on copyright or trademark. (Although Marvel, if you're reading this I'd love to get a prop consultant credit if this helps you put a functional prop in Charlie Cox's hands). I'm not responsible for any negative consequences you suffer as a result of watching this video. Don't spend a lot of money (I really tried to keep it cheap), hurt yourself or anyone else either making or using this, or take this to someplace like school and get in trouble over it.
