Koku [dokyoku] on 2.45 Taimu shakuhachi by Cornelius Shinzen Boots

Live at the Berkeley Rose Labyinth Sept. 7, 2013. This is one of the most directly Watazumido inspired scores that I have been studying with Michael Chikuzen Gould as well as working on with 3 different Watazumi recordings, one of which is in this key (RO=Ab). This is one of the Three Ancient Pieces of Koden Honkyoku, classical Buddhist pieces for shakuhachi derived from nature, contemplation and chant. "There are at least half-a-dozen transmission of this song from various temples and sects in Japan. Fudaiji Koku is played in order to experience the boundaries of mu. Mu is often translated as 'nothingness,' but in reality it is the illusionary aspects of various phenomena of existence---'there' or 'not there,' 'still' or 'moving', 'alive' or 'dead', etc." --Chikuzen koden and koten honkyoku sheet music series
