Hillsborough River State Park- Thonotosassa, Florida Ruff Road Campground Review Florida State Park

Hillsborough River State Park- Thonotosassa, Florida Ruff Road Campground Review Florida State Park This park rocks! It is absolutely one of our top ten favorite parks so far. Here a clear river flows over rocks under sprawling trees with a hiking trail right beside it. Here you can walk among the palmettos and towering cypress trees. Here you can see class II rapids! This is Hillsborough River State Park in Thonotosassa, Florida. It is about 24 miles northeast of Tampa, Florida. What we love about Hillsborough River State Park: 1. The River! It's clear, has a rocky bottom, and is simply breathtaking. It is one of Florida's prettiest rivers. 2. The Trails! You can hike many miles throughout the park. There is even a longer trail with a primitive campsite on it. You can hike right along the the river listening to the water rushing over the rocks as you walk. There are boardwalks and a fun suspension bridge that takes you to other trails across the river. 3. Lots to do here: hiking, biking, kayaking, swimming when the pool is open, camping. 4. Dog walking opportunities 5. Verizon worked great. 6. Scenic area, scenic camp roads 7. Large sites What we didn't love about Hillsborough River State Park: 1. Not the park's fault, but we were there in caterpillar season! They were everywhere. At first I found the turquoise colored ones beautiful, but when hundreds covered our campsite, I wasn't as impressed. I do not know if this is a March thing for the area or just where we were camped. We'll be back next March so we'll see. 2. Campsites lack privacy brush in between them but they are large providing space between you and your neighbor.
