Microbes in Household Products Fermentation in Food: Microorganisms play a key role in fermentation, which is essential in making yogurt, cheese, and bread. Lactobacillus bacteria: Used in curd-making, converts lactose to lactic acid. Yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae): Used in bread and alcoholic fermentation. Idli & Dosa Batter Fermentation: Fermented with lactic acid bacteria and yeast, giving these foods their unique taste and texture. 2. Microbes in Industrial Products Alcoholic Beverages: Produced through yeast fermentation. Antibiotics: Penicillin is a classic example, produced by Penicillium notatum. Antibiotics target and destroy harmful bacteria. Organic Acids: Microbes produce citric acid (by Aspergillus niger), acetic acid (by Acetobacter aceti), and lactic acid (by Lactobacillus). Enzymes and Bioactive Molecules: Microbes like Streptococcus produce streptokinase (for blood clot removal), while Aspergillus produces pectinases and proteases for various industries. 3. Microbes in Sewage Treatment Primary Treatment: Physical removal of large particles. Secondary Treatment (Biological Treatment): Uses aerobic bacteria in aeration tanks to decompose organic matter, followed by anaerobic bacteria to produce biogas in sludge digesters. Activated Sludge: The settled sludge in aeration tanks used in agriculture or disposed of safely. 4. Microbes in Biogas Production Methanogens (e.g., Methanobacterium): These bacteria decompose organic waste in anaerobic conditions to produce biogas (mainly methane). Biogas Plants: Use cow dung and other organic waste to produce biogas, which serves as an eco-friendly fuel source in rural areas. 5. Microbes in Biocontrol Agents Biopesticides: Using microbes instead of harmful chemicals for pest control. Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt): Produces toxins that kill insect pests, especially useful in organic farming. Trichoderma spp.: Fungi that act against plant pathogens. Integrated Pest Management (IPM): Uses biocontrol agents as part of sustainable agriculture. 6. Microbes in Biofertilizers Rhizobium: Forms symbiotic associations with leguminous plants, fixes atmospheric nitrogen. Azotobacter and Azospirillum: Free-living nitrogen-fixing bacteria that enhance soil fertility. Mycorrhizae (e.g., Glomus): Symbiotic association with plant roots, helps in nutrient and water absorption. #NEET2025 #PlantKingdom #NEETBiology #SandhyaMaam #CBSE #Telugu Hashtags: #NEET2025 #Biotechnology #PreviousYearQuestions #PYQs #SandhyaMaam #TeluguMedium #Biology #NEETPreparation #CBSE #NCERT #Vedantu Special Price only Rs. 2999/- Click on this link for Arjuna NEET + EAPCET 2025 Batch https://vdnt.in/FjtA9 ⚡For Offline Batch Admission Inquiry Fill the Form https://vdnt.in/FEjiR Limited Period Offer!
