A playthrough of Capcom's 1993 license-based platformer for the Nintendo Game Boy, DuckTales 2. Played on Difficult mode. It seemed that Capcom could do no wrong with their Disney-based games in the early 90s, and the DuckTales games were among their best. Just as with the first game, DuckTales 2 for the Game Boy is a faithful adaptation of its NES counterpart. Uncle Scrooge is still trying to hoard the world's treasures, and he is willing to pogo stick murder anyone or anything that tries to stop him. He travels around five major sites (Mu, a Scottish castle, an Egyptian pyramid, Niagara Falls, and a boat in the Bermuda Triangle) hopping around, collecting diamonds, priceless treasures, and power-up items. Once that's done, Webby gets kidnapped by the D-1000 (how awesome is that for a name?) and Scrooge has to head back to Bermuda to save her and to finish things with his rival, Flintheart Glomgold. The level design is similar to the NES game's, but it has been heavily revised to better work with the smaller screen. It all feels familiar and flows well, and also will provide a fun new challenge for anyone that is familiar with the NES's stage layouts. The graphics and sound are also great: the graphics are right on par with the NES version's, and the music gets a substantial upgrade in the conversion. The first DuckTales GB game's soundtrack was... well, you might charitably call it butchered... but this sequel rights that wrong. Just listen to the Niagara Falls theme on the NES and then on the Game Boy. It's a surprising, and impressive, difference. DuckTales 2 on the Game Boy is well worth playing, even if you've already played the console version. I actually prefer it!
