The UK city of Derby has been building trains continually since 1839 and is home to Europe’s largest rail cluster. Alstom is proud to have a significant base in the city, with our Litchurch Lane Works there being one of the world’s largest rolling stock factories. In fact, is the only UK facility that designs, engineers, builds and tests trains for domestic and export markets. The site was opened by the Midland Railway in 1876, initially as the Carriage and Wagon Works and more recently has concentrated on producing passenger multiple units for customers in the UK and abroad.
