This is probably one of my most commonly asked questions regarding solo travel. Just know if you’re hesitant or nervous, MANY other people are feeling the same way!! Honestly you just gotta do it scared. (@Krys my lovely inspo for this) Hype yourself up!! It’s liberating and seriously one of the best feelings. But you know I always gotta add in a little *disclaimer*: solo travel does come with the highest highs AND the lowest lows. Starting small can make a big difference. Orrrr maybe baptism by fire is the route for you and you just go for the multi month international trip right off the bat 😉 If that’s not your speed then start with taking yourself on a date, then a few nights trip, add a little more each time. Don’t wait for someone to join you. I know you may be thinking “easy for you to say, you had someone with you for 11 years to travel with”, and yes, that was the case. On the other hand, if I would’ve waited for someone to join me for this trip, I wouldn’t be on it right now. In 2018 I flew from Nebraska to Texas for a teaching conference and this was what I consider to be my first solo trip. I’m pretty sure that trip also marks the first time I went to a restaurant by myself and I was even so nervous for just that. The conference was only a few days, and I honestly spent all day in the classroom and barely left my hotel room BUT the confidence grew. Even if just for a bit. I took my first solo international flight in October of 2022. The LAX international terminal confused the shit out of me and I and nearly missed my flight buuut I sure learned a lot! If you want to do an international trip but don’t know where to start, my recommendation is SE Asia. I have felt very safe the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Indonesia. I’ve got a lot more to share on solo travel tips in future posts :) and on an end note - your DMs saying you’ve felt inspired to book a trip or go on a solo adventure quite literally make my heart melt you guys are the best 🫶🏼 #solofemaletraveler #solofemalebackpacker #solotravel
