The "Is Not" part of the IS-ISNOT analysis is really important - it's not just the 'counterpart to the left column.' Unfortunately I often see it being used that way, which reduces the usefulness of this tool. When describing the problem (because that's when you'll use Is-Is Not most often), think about what you would expect to be true based on the info that you've collected so far. Then go and test if that's true. And if it's not, that is great input for that "Is Not" column. The object of this analysis is to explicitly capture your thinking and the information gathered: sharing what is not happening around your problem also gives important clues to the (root) causes. #continuousimprovement #problemsolving #rootcauseanalysis
