Master studying with my book: The Psychology of Effective Studying. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Psychology-E... Visit my website: https://www.drpaulpenn.com/ In this video I give you some advice on how to develop clear arguments in your academic writing. Following an argument involves seeing and understanding the relationship between different sources/concepts/perspectives. Psychologists would refer to an argument as something that involves a high level of intrinsic cognitive load (Sweller, 1998). In other words, you have to expend quite a bit of mental effort to follow an argument. Therefore, developing a clear argument involves reducing the mental effort a reader needs to invest to understand your augments. Two simple ways of making your arguments easier to follow involve: i) giving your arguments a clear structure ii) ensuring that this structure is signposted to the reader via your use of language. More information on how you can achieve this can be found in the video. I hope you find it useful. :) References: Sweller, J. (1988). Cognitive load during problem solving: Effects on learning.
