Use Old GearVR Without the New USB-C Adapter

I last tested it on January 2024 on a Samsung Galaxy S7 phone. It seems the quick-shortcut app is not in the playstore anymore. But this is no problem just download an older apk. For my S7 the version 2.4.0 worked I downloaded it from apkmirror. Then I type in the search field of QuickShortcutMaker the word "GearVR" or scrool to the list as shown in the video and in the list click on one of the shown GearVR Services (for me it was the one before the last one in the list) it opens the GearVR installer. Then just follow the steps in the video. https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/sika524... However after doing this I can not login to my GearVR account anymore. I can still start Samsung's VR Internet browser and gallery just fine. This means as long as you can find the Apk's you should be able to run them, just like the Samsung GearVR apps which come preinstalled. This reddit post shows how to get all the apk files installed on your phone   / the_definitive_quest_piracy_guide   I haven't tested it since I am already on Quest 3 and dont need it but it ciukd be a work around to gett al the apks i stalled without the need to login into facebook. Would appreciate if someone who wants to test it out writes a comment below this video tells us if it works. If you have a GearVR supportet phone you only need the controller. You can use any other headset since you dont plug in. But since GearVR headsets are very cheap ~10$ you should get a reak GearVR and not one of the cheap cardboard headsets. 1.) I tested the S7 and the S10 without the GearVR plugged in and booth devices worked well, I did not notice any difference in tracking quality between the S7 and S10. I checked the sensor speed using the app 'Sensor Kinetics' and it turns out the speed rating of the sensor in the S7 is even better (minimal delay: 2000μs) than the one in the S10 (minimal delay: 2402μs) and booth S7 and S10 are better than the Pixel phone (minimal delay: 2500μs) which is a Daydream ready phone which works without being connected to a headset either. So it seems advances in software are mainly responsible for allowing us to use phones without the GearVR being plugged in. 2.) Youtube User - Shayan M, pointed out that the Gear VR Model SM-R322 can not be modified that easily and the connector needs to be removed permanently. 3.) According to Fireman2k from reddit if you don't have a GearVR controller, you can also use your fingers to touch and swipe the display to interact with the content e.g. starting videos and apps. 4.) If you don't want to buy the GearVR controller, you can also use some Bluetooth gamepads for example the XBOX One controller and some other Android gamepads work well with the GearVR. 5.) The Daydream headsets also seems to have the right size and lenses to work well with the GearVR app which means you don't need a GearVR headset at all to use all the games. However having the official GearVR controller is a good idear since it allows you to controll the apps and some games require it. You need a different input device since the touchpad and buttons of the GearVR are not accessible when the phone is not plugged in. In this video I use a GearVR SM-R323. I bought the controller separately it works with all GearVR models since it only connects to the phone not the headset. 6.) Galaxy S10 Users. Samsung just released an Update which removes the GearVR support from your phone. They don't want to support it further and therefore ou should not update when you ant to keep using your GeaVR. In my case I wasnt even able to prevent the update and Samsung did the update by force making my GearVR unusable. There might be ways to revert to an earlier operation system version to get it working again but I decided to move on and buy a Quest instead. Current hardware I recommend for VR (Paid Links): Meta Quest 3: - Amazon: 128GB version: https://amzn.to/46cJ1k6 - Dont buy the 512GB version its not worth it - Quest 2 used is also a great option and for 100$ or less a steal.
