This was the last thing played at the May 2013 Mother Lode Ragtime Society meeting, hence his comment at the beginning. You get an idea of how his sight-reading works when the fast bit begins and it takes a few measures before he realizes he's playing it with the wrong rhythm, then restarts the section in the correct one-step rhythm. That really shows how he only glances at the music enough to figure out the melody and the chord sequence, maybe the basic idea of the bass line, and then simply improvises from there. The improvisation is taken to a farther level later on when he switches it to a minor key and plays it as a waltz. There was an A-flat on the piano that was missing two strings, so it had just one string sounding.
