Saanen and Gstaad, two small towns on the edge of the Bernese Oberland. One is known for a breed of goats and one as a high society ski resort. Both have their charms. I took the train from Interlakern and got off at Saanenmöser, two stops before Saanen. From here there are many easy hikes in all directs. I took the path towards Schönried and then onto Saanen. At this point II somehow managed to put the GoPro into Time Lapse mode and spent far too much time trying to sort it and ended up getting the train to Gstaad instead of walking. Gstaad is home to around 9,200 people but this swells in the winter moths when the High Society and Ket Setters descend for the ski resort. The main street is a testament to this and is full of shops like Louis Vuitton, Prada and Cartier. There are plenty of cafes and hotels offering food and drink with some at reasonable prices along with local delicatesents. We would recommend Molkerei Gstaad which as you would expect offers a wide variety of cheese. It is also at the very end of the main street so it is a good excuse to walk the whole length.
