The headquarters of the Tendai Buddhist Sect is settled in a privileged spot, at the Hieizan mountain, north-east of Kyoto. Founded by monk Saichō in 788, this site has many other subtemples all along the country. The way to get there from central Kyoto is part of its attraction: the combination of Cable car and Ropeway offers to the visitor impressive views of the mountains and the city of Kyoto. The several temples and constructions as well as the immersive surroundings offers a unique experience of balance and joy. There are three main areas, Todo, Saito and Yokawa, connected by idyllic paths that delight your senses: the intense smell of the cedar trees and the delicate view of the moss, along with the magnificent buddhist constructions offers an unforgettable experience.
