Credits information: https://www.kohlarn.com/index.html Now is a great time to visit Koh Larn. Prices of many things from motorbike rentals to lodging have gone way down. The beaches and water are much cleaner now, and the big tour groups have all but disappeared. All this leaves you with a fantastic Tropical Island experience the way it was meant to be. An Introduction to Koh Larn Koh Larn is a wonderful little island in the Gulf of Thailand. Koh Larn is located about 7km off the coast of Pattaya Beach of which is about a two hour drive south of Bangkok. The Island is about 4km long and 2km wide and at it is about 180 meters high at the highest point. The terrain is mostly mountainous which is covered in most part with heavy vegetation. Infrastructure is mainly narrow roadways covered with brick paver's. Some of the roadways are very steep and only wide enough for two motorbikes to pass by each other, but most roads are suitable for regular traffic. Koh Larn has six main beaches and a few smaller beaches for visitors to enjoy. All the beaches are of white sand and clear azure waters. There are many water sport activities at each of the beaches. There are also many other activities such as para sailing for you to enjoy while visiting Koh Larn. All the beaches have full facilities such as bathrooms and showers. All beaches on Koh Larn have restaurants that serve up delicious fresh catch of the day seafood or just about any other dish you may desire. You can choose to order your meal in the restaurant or straight from your beach lounger. Yes, a day on Koh Larn can be a very relaxing experience, with the gentle sounds of the ocean and without all the noise of the city. There are many resorts on the island of Koh Larn, they range from budget rooms to luxury accommodations. While room rates are a little higher on the island than in Pattaya or Jomtien it is well worth the experience of spending the night on the island of Koh Larn. Some people end up liking Koh Larn so much they end up staying there for extended periods like months and even some stay years. If you are planning a few days stay, may I suggest calling ahead for reservations especially during peak season, holidays and weekends, you can find descriptions and contact information on my resorts of Koh Larn page. Bear in mind my resorts page is not ordered in any particular way and I do not receive any compensation from them. Ferry boat to Koh Larn Cost of the Ferry boat is 30 Baht each way per person. There are 2 destinations for the ferry, one is the Koh Larn village which faces towards Pattaya and then the other is Tawaen Beach which is on the opposite side. The trip takes between 35 and 45 minutes, so relax and enjoy the smooth ride. Speed boat to Koh Larn Cost about 150-200 per Baht per person from Bali Hai Pier. As you walk out on the pier you will see the floating piers where you board the speed boats. Speed boats serve all of the beaches as well as the main village. Travel time 15 to 20 minutes. You can also hire a speedboat for your group, prices range from 1,500 to 3,500 Baht. What determines the price is the size of the boat you want to hire. Motor Bike Riding on Koh Larn Cost is 200 to 300 Baht per day this includes fuel Motorbike riding just happens to be something I personally have allot of experience in, and I never seem to tire of it. In Thailand motorbike is a major source of personal transportation. For my transportation needs here on the island a motorbike is perfect, the roads are just too narrow for a bigger vehicle. Also my fossil fuel consumption is about two liters a week whereas before in the USA it was fifty times that conservatively speaking. Motorbike rentals are widely available on the island. All of the motorbikes for rent here are all late models and are well maintained for your riding pleasure and safety. Most of the motorbikes have automatic clutch, with some even being fully automatic, so you don't even need to shift gears. The cost is around 200 Baht for the entire day. For exploring the island motorbike is the way to go. A map of the island is supplied with each motorbike. There are many road signs written in English, on the island that should keep you from getting lost. If however you do get lost it won't take you long to find your way again, the island is not that big. Some Safety Tips I would like to give some safety tips here even to the experienced rider me included. When riding around the island keep your eyes on the road. I know that may sound stupid, but it is really easy here to be looking at something and all of a sudden the road takes a turn and off into a ditch you go. There is plenty of time to stop take a look around and then off to the next place. There are no signal lights here, hell there isn't even a stop sign on the entire island, so be careful at intersections.
