Takuma, the founder and CEO of Shifto, introduces Shiftall, a smart pendant lamp equipped with touch controls and augmented reality (AR) projection capabilities. The lamp can recognize and project images based on the objects placed beneath it, demonstrated with a hamburger. The prototype model showcased at CES aims to gauge public interest and potential use cases. Takuma envisions applications in restaurants, where the lamp could serve as an interactive menu, providing details about dishes, such as the origin of ingredients and even showcasing the source animal. The device is designed to connect to the internet or a local server, allowing for dynamic and customizable content. Beyond restaurants, Shifto sees potential business-to-business (B2B) applications, extending the device's utility beyond homes. Takuma discusses the importance of understanding user needs and product acceptance during the CES exhibition. In addition to its AR projection capabilities, Shiftall incorporates a unique food management feature. The device can serve as both a refrigerator and a heating device. After cooking, users can place hot food directly into the device, which will automatically refrigerate it. When ready to eat, the device heats the food to the desired temperature. Takuma demonstrates the functionality, emphasizing the convenience of controlling the device through a smartphone app. The smartphone app enables users to set up preferences, such as reheating food remotely before arriving home. Takuma emphasizes the practicality of having warm, ready-to-eat food upon returning home, with the device supporting various portion sizes based on customer requirements. Addressing pricing, Takuma mentions that the current model is priced at $300, with a possible increase to $500. The mass production timeline is contingent on customer feedback and CES attendee responses, aiming for availability in the autumn of 2020. The interview concludes with a glimpse of the lamp's heating functionality, affirming its viability as a practical and innovative addition to smart home devices.
