Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line 東京地下鉄丸ノ内線

The Marunouchi Line is a subway line operated by Tokyo Metro. It extends from Ikebukuro in Toshima to Ogikubo in Suginami and has a branch line from Nakano-Sakaue to Hōnanchō. Marunouchi is a commercial district of Tokyo located between Tokyo Station and the Imperial Palace. The name, meaning "inside the circle", derives from its location within the palace's outer moat. It is also Tokyo's financial district and the country's three largest banks are headquartered there. After the Ginza Line, the Marunouchi Line was the second subway line built in Tokyo - it opened 1954 between Ikebukuro and Ochanomizu. These two lines are the only subways in Tokyo which use the third rail and 600 V DC. Because of the relative shallowness at which the line runs, the Marunouchi Line is one of the few subway lines which has several points in central Tokyo where trains run at or above ground level. These include Yotsuya Station, the Kanda River near Ochanomizu Station, and between Kōrakuen and Myōgadani stations. The 3.2 km long branch line between Nakano-Sakaue and Hōnanchō is usually operated in isolation with 3-car trains, while on the main line all trains have 6-cars. There are also through train operations from the main to the branch line in the morning or evening when trains are terminating at Nakano-Fujimichō (on the branch line) to reach the Nakano Depot. The main line is the most frequent subway line in Tokyo, with trains running at intervals of 1 minute 50 seconds during peak hours. All stations are equipped with chest-high platform doors to reduce the danger of arriving and departing trains at crowded platforms. In the future the branch line terminus at Hōnanchō will be lengthened to serve 6-car trains to use the station. This will allow to introduce through running trains on the entire branch line up to Ikebukuro.
