This video was produced and filmed by NYPD Police Officer Derek Poy. Derek and I were coworkers back in the day. I had the privilege to know and work with this talented and great cop. His video represents the grueling and exhaustive training that comes with the Highway Districts Specialized Training School (traditionally called "Wheel School'). Only after you successfully pass 'wheel school', will you earn the right to don the "wheeled wing" pin on your uniform and to permanently be assigned to the NYPD Highway Patrol. Although I fell off the 'wheel' about a million times during training, someone told me to be successful at this, you MUST fall off the motorcycle about a million times. The result of all this is knowing all the hard work finally paid off at the end. I was blessed with the opportunity to earn my "wings" and to work side by side with the fine men and women of this elite unit. I beam with pride when I watch this video.
