Over the past week we’ve been slowly replacing our beam lashings one by one. Not becasue they are worn out or broken, but becasue we have decided to go with a different type of rope. A rope that is 1/2 as flexible as our previous lashings. This new rope is actually what the building plans specify. At first, Alex decided to use 3-strand polyester, without looking at the specifications, rather than the recommended 8-plait polyester. After sailing 800nm we determined that the previous rope is a little TOO flexible for our liking. The waves in the Caribbean caused us to FEEL the flexibility of our boat while underway. By changing the lashings we have effectivly decreased the flexibility of our boat by half. We are curious, do you think we made the right move by modifying our cockpit by taking out the table?
