BEFORE YOU WATCH THIS VIDEO, we just wanted to say that Ecuador and South America are full of the most amazing, kind and helpful people in the world. Despite what the general media portrays, we have been met with nothing but kindness on our travels. Let's not have one negative incident color our perceptions, but also remind us to stay vigilant wherever you may be. Today, we got robbed. We had some time to kill in Baños, Ecuador before our night bus to Guayaquil and decided to book a private hostel room to store our stuff while we explored the city. We checked-in at Hostal Kamelot, and minor red flags immediately went off when we were shown to a room on the first floor (we usually ask for somewhere further away from street, but the hotel was full). When we returned, nothing seemed to be amiss - the door was locked and the bags were still zipped shut. Only after arriving in Guayaquil did we realize what had happened. Documents, drivers' license, and $2,000 of cash was stolen out of my backpack. We ended up going to a police station to make a report - the whole process was surprisingly smooth as we were helped along the way by multiple friendly and sympathetic people. In the end, nothing really came of the investigation, but we're thankful that we are safe and unharmed. Let's continue on this journey across SOUTH AMERICA! Thank you for watching our video!
