(30 Jun 1963) In a ceremony at the Red City Hall, WALTER ULBRICHT became an honorary citizen of the city. After signing his name into the "Golden Book", Lord Mayor FRIEDRICH EBERT congratulated Ulbricht on behalf of the Gov. Then, Ulbricht together with Russian Prime Minister NIKITA KRUSHEV visited the Berlin machine-tool factory Marzahn. Members of the polit-bureau of the Central Committee (ZK) of the SED (Social Unity Party), amongst them OTTO GROTEWOHL congratulated Ulbricht on his 70th birthday who received a SIL, the latest Russian car model, from Kruschev. Another highlight of the day was a big reception at Berlin's Dynamo Sportshall. VIP's present included WLADYSLAW GOMULKA (Poland), ANTONIN NOVOTNY (Czechoslovakia), TODOR SHIWKOW (Bulgaria) and JANOS KADAR (Hungary). Among the guests of honour, the creators of the film "The Russian Miracle", Annelie and Andrew Throndyke. Kruschev presented Walter Ulbricht with the following title: "Hero of the Soviet Union" and bestowed upon him the "Lenin Award" with the medal "Golden Star".
