This very special organ was originally thought to have been installed at Oosthuizen c.1521 but apparently recent research suggests a 17th century assembly in an old case. Whatever, the organ possesses some of the oldest playable pipes in the Netherlands dating back to the early 16th century and beyond. Comprising only seven stops (effectively a Principal chorus + 16ft Bourdon) this organ's ancient voices fill the large, resonant church with unforced ease and power. They sing with tremendous character and vitality, both individually and in combination. In short this instrument is a truly wondrous thing! The tuning is Meantone. Sietze's remarkable improvisation takes us on a tour of the instrument's full range of colour possibilities. (Recorded Monday 23 October 2023)
