Trust is Not a Crime | Shannon Moroney | TEDxQueensU

NOTE FROM TED: This talk contains a discussion of sexual assault and trauma. This talk represents the speaker's personal views and experience. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/t... In “Trust is Not a Crime” Shannon Moroney shares her personal journey following the violent crimes of her first husband, diving deep into justice, healing and how we can — and must — stop shaming and blaming victims. Aimed at inspiring change and nurturing a more compassionate world, Shannon’s voice, story, insights and big ideas touch both mind and heart, calling us all to action for an approach to justice that centres on accountability, dignity and the rebuilding of trust for people and communities. Shannon Moroney is the bestselling author of Through the Glass, a memoir of her journey following her first husband's violent crimes. She is also the creator of a transformative online course, “Heal for Real: How to Forgive Others—and yourself—in 10 steps” and its companion self-help book. Shannon was named a “Woman in the World” recommended writer by the New York Times, "One of the world's 50 most resilient people” by The International Resilience Project, and reached #1 at the World Empathy Library. A bold and brave advocate, Shannon is well known for her role as therapist and victims’ spokesperson in the criminal trials of disgraced fashion mogul, Peter Nygård. She also provides expert testimony in court, trauma-informed legal and media training, and consultation on crime bills. She has been interviewed countless times by global print, radio and TV outlets, featured in film documentaries, performed on stage, consulted on scripts and given dozens of conference keynotes, public talks, and university lectures. As the founder & clinical director of Heal for Real Therapy & Consulting, Shannon’s practice supports people and communities to achieve post-traumatic growth. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
