Queen Mary Replica Scottish Clarsach Wire Harp - Fiskavaig Isle of Skye

Thank you for taking the time to view my film. There’s so much to say about this clarsach, that I’ll say very little. The build took in the region of 2300 hours. I followed Karen A. Loomis’s ‘The Organology of the Queen Mary and Lamont Harps’ as best as I could. I underestimated how long it might take to carve/engrave the patterns rather than burn them. Let’s just say, the work doesn’t compare in time. To get even close to the new information available consumes days and months at an alarming rate. The recording was made on the day after the instrument was first brought to pitch. I’m extremely happy with the resonance of the clarsach, the background reverb is pleasing and very strong. I feel that maybe the sound box carving rather than wood burning has contributed to this. However, the clarsach needs time to open up and develop. This will be my final Queen Mary clarsach. I must thank Karen A. Loomis for her wonderful work and Simon Chadwick for the tuning pin work/key and help with the gold and silver wire. It's a lot of detail to fit into a small film.
