Why do farmers don’t get the price they desire for their agricultural produce? Why are they not able to increase their production capacity to ensure they make a decent living? Not receiving payments on time and having trouble acquiring loans are the two greatest problems farmers face. Their economic problem deepens as a result of the shortage of liquid funds, which makes it harder for them to survive. No wonder we are seeing many farmers taking the extreme steps of suicide. In the suicide-prone Vidarbha district, we collaborated with Farmers Producer Companies and Krushi Vibhag to solve this problem. We bought onions from these farmers and helped them acquire the crucial technical skills and business knowledge that they required. The result? Now, not only do farmers receive payments on time, they get the right price for their produce. Due to this, they are able to increase their production and earn better margins. For Vidarbha farmers, their hopes are rekindled and the faith restored that life can be more beautiful and rewarding.
