The Theresia Bastion by DRONE. Great Arial View! - Timisoara Romania - ECTV

The Theresia Bastion is the only bastion that still exists from the citadel of Timișoara from the period of Banat's belonging to the Austrian Empire. [8] Being the only bastion in Timișoara, it is also known by the people of Timisoara as the Fortress Bastion. [9] The bastion was rehabilitated from 2008 to 2010. Before the rehabilitation, it hosted commercial spaces, restaurants, bars, a disco with a nightclub program, a bookstore, two permanent exhibitions of the Banat Museum, the One of Information and Communication Technology and "Violin — a passion of a lifetime", as well as the Ethnography Department of the Banat Village Museum. [10][11] After rehabilitation, for 5 years the financing conditions stipulated the obligation to use the complex especially for cultural activities, the public catering activities being limited to cafes, confectioneries and wineries, the disco being transformed into a training center for youth. [12][13] After the conquest in October 1716 of the citadel of Timișoara by the Habsburg army under the leadership of Eugene of Savoy it was found that the Turkish fortifications could not cope with the new fighting techniques. As a result, the decision was made to restore the entire fortress. The fortification was done in pagan system (fr/en). [14] The Pagan System inspired the first of the fortification systems envisaged by Vauban (fr/en), the similarity between these systems spread the claim that Timisoara was fortified in the Vauban style. [15] Theresia Bastion was the first to be built. The construction began in 1732[4][8] immediately after the hydrotechnical works for the regularization of the Bega were completed, works that took place between 1728–1732 and which were meant to provide the necessary water in the ditch of the fortress so that the ravelin / bastion could function properly. [16] He first appears on the plans of 1732–1733. It was originally conceived as a ravelin, surrounded by water, located in front of the wall (curtain) that was to unite the future Francis and Joseph bastions, and was called the Ravelin of Proviant (Ravelin of the Food Depot[5][8][17]). Its construction was completed in 1733–1734. [8][4] It was later embedded in the wall of the fortifications, and in 1744 it was renamed the Theresia Bastion, in honor of Archduchess Maria Theresa of Austria. [6][8] In the course of time here was the residence of the Roman Catholic Diocese, then it housed several workshops and warehouses, an apprentice school, a riding school, an ethnography school, a fencing school, a printing press, school boarding schools or the State Archives. After 1970, the ethnography collections of the Banat Museum, a technical museum and the old collections of the County Library were moved here. [10] At the end of the XIX century and the beginning of the twentieth century, the defortification of timisoara took place. [18] Almost all the fortifications were demolished within it. Theresia Bastion was the only bastion that was not demolished, the reason being that it had rooms, usable throughout its length. [6] Currently, the bastion belongs to the Timiș county (the A, B, C and E buildings), administered by the Timiș County Council and to the timișoara municipality (building D), administered by the Timișoara City Hall. [1][2][19] In April 2018, the city hall assigned free of charge the space of almost 1400 m² of the D building to the House of Culture for a period of three years. In this building will be arranged an exhibition space and a multifunctional one, where various cultural activities can be organized. [20] My name is Eric Clark and I am a world traveler.
