Why Earthquake Occurs?: धरती मेनली चार परतों से बनी हुई है. इनर कोर, आउटर कोर, मैनटल और क्रस्ट. क्रस्ट और ऊपरी मैन्टल कोर को लिथोस्फेयर कहा जाता है. अब ये 50 किलोमीटर की मोटी परत कई वर्गों में बंटी हुई है जिन्हें टैकटोनिक प्लेट्स कहा जाता है. यानि धरती की ऊपरी सतह 7 टेक्टोनिक प्लेटों से मिलकर बनी है. ये प्लेटें कभी भी स्थिर नहीं होती, ये लगातार हिलती रहती हैं, जब ये प्लेटें एक दूसरे की तरफ बढ़ती है तो इनमें आपस में टकराव होता है. इनके टकराने से बड़ी मात्रा में ऊर्जा निकलती है जिससे इलाके में हलचल होती है. सीधे शब्दों में कहें तो जब ये प्लेट बहुत ज्यादा हिल जाती हैं, तो भूकंप महसूस होता है और जिस क्षेत्र में ये प्लेट्स ज्यादा टकराती हैं वो जोन 'फॉल्ट लाइन' कहलाता है. अब तक का सबसे बड़ा रिकॉर्ड किया गया भूकंप 22 मई 1960 को चिली में आया था. ये 9.5 मेग्नीट्यूड तीव्रता का भूकंप था. अक्सर भूकंपकुछ सेकेंड या कुछ मिनट तक ही रहता है. लेकिन अब तक के इतिहास में सबसे ज्यादा देर तक रहने वाला भूकंप 2004 में हिंद महासागर में आया था, ये भूकंप 10 मिनट तक रहा था. वहीं अब तक का सबसे भयंकर भूकंप साल 1556 में शांसी चीन में आए भूकंप ने 830,000 लोगों की जान ले ली थी Earth is mainly made up of four layers. Inner core, outer core, mantle and crust. The crust and upper mantle core are called lithosphere. Now this 50 km thick layer is divided into several sections which are called tectonic plates. That is, the upper surface of the Earth is made up of 7 tectonic plates. These plates are never stationary, they are constantly moving, when these plates move towards each other, they collide with each other.
