World's Loudest Acoustic Bass : 3 Acoustic Basses Compared

In thiis video we compare a full-scale acoustic bass to two experimental micro basses. The Ibanez AEB5E standard acoustic bass features a jumbo acoustic body and a 32" scale length. Both the Cordoba and the Godin have classical guitar bodies (grand concert size) which are about 3/4 the internal volume of the Ibanez bass. The scale lengths of both are 25 1/2". Both the Cordoba C5 and the Godin Etude micro basses use the TurboTail to divert string tension from the soundboard to the tailblock, protecting the soundboard from any long-term deformation. The TurboTail enhances bass response by converting string vibrations into the fundamental (up down) mode. Obviously, the two classical-size micro basses basses are more comfortable to hold. Plus, the shorter scale length makes them easier to fret and reduces hand stress. You would think that they would be quieter than a full-scale bass, right? When you hear this comparison, you may be surprised to find that a classical guitar with bass strings and the TurboTail sounds far better than a full-size acoustic bass, especially for its size.
